Thinking Outside the Box (from the Inside)

Andrew Redleaf is a prophet. This Minneapolis-based hedge fund manager accurately predicted in late 2006 the finance market collapse of 2007, and those investing with his firm, Whitebox Advisors, benefitted from his foresight.

Hired for the third time to photograph Andy, I wanted to portray the cool intelligence of this otherwise unassuming man.

I found my inspiration in the name of his firm. He chose Whitebox to play against the investing term "black box" -- revealing how his investment strategy runs outside the prevailing wisdom. So I placed him inside the frame of a "white box," calmly gazing out at market opportunities others do not see.
